De La Salle College in Jersey provides a fine example of Timoleon’s ability to tailor underfloor heating systems to meet specific application requirements in the most cost-efficient manner.
Two different techniques have been used to provide solutions for the individual needs of the school’s new sports hall and the changing rooms beneath. The College is an independent RC school that meets the educational needs of 840 boys aged 4-18. Underfloor heating offered an ideal means of environmental control for the new sports hall, which is 7m high to the apex of the pitched roof.
The sprung sports floor utilises New Era - a quick and easy floor levelling system designed to ease the installation of Junckers flooring over uneven or varying height sub floors.
Requirements for a compatible underfloor heating system include a product which can integrate perfectly with the required batten spacing, performed well with the Ecodan heatpumps and, by no means least, a solution which allows the floor to move freely while still ensuring that the pipework remained in contact with the underside of the floor deck.
Research shows that close contact is essential to maintain high efficiencies from underfloor heating systems used in association with this type of floor. Timoleon Aether FoilBoard offered an ideal solution. It comprises high efficiency insulation material with a layer of aluminium bonded to the upper surface – into which channels are preformed ready to accept Timoleon’s 15mm polybutylene heating pipe.
The system is ideal for use with wooden suspended, or floating floor constructions, with heat from the aluminium diffuser layer radiating evenly across the entire under surface of the floor.
Both straight and loop return sections are available, all of which can be easily cut – Timoleon uses soft tempered aluminium - to meet the exact dimensions of the floor.
At De La Salle College Timoleon supplied Aether FoilBoard which integrate perfectly with the acoustic sprung battens at 411mm centres. When the system is in operation heat distributed evenly across the entire floor area - combining total comfort with discreet, tamper-proof invisibility and low maintenance requirements.
New changing rooms are located beneath the hall and these too are served by Timoleon underfloor heating. Here a pipe-and-staple technique has been used with insulation and pipework integrated into the floor by a sand and cement top screed.
The pipework loops for the Timoleon systems are supplied, via discreetly located manifolds, with warm water generated by three air source heat pumps. The low temperature requirements of Timoleon underfloor heating ensure that the heat pump system is kept at maximum efficiency throughout its operating cycle.
