Timoleon underfloor heating is now providing safe, low energy comfort for a progressive north London primary school.
Anson Primary School in Cricklewood caters for the needs of 360 boys and girls aged from 3-11 divided into 11 classes and a nursery.
Anson is no ordinary school. It is an acknowledged leader in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teaching with all classrooms now equipped with fully interactive whiteboards.
Anson Primary was awarded the Home Access Award in the e-learning foundation’s “most innovative project” awards, for its social network NW2bFriends.
Anson Primary was also announced as winner of the “Beyond the Classroom” category at the ICT Excellence Awards. The award is given to just one primary school nationally each year.
Nor is interactive technology limited to ICT. The school even has its own radio station, broadcasting the pupils’ poems, stories and dramatic productions. Listners can hear them conduct lively interviews with politicians, e-safety experts, the police and others.
Perfect Partner
Timoleon underfloor heating makes a perfect partner for this 21st Century school. The technology requires only low surface temperatures, which ensures safety for young children, and also all possible floor and wall space can be used. To meet the special needs of a school environment, the Timoleon design team has balanced low water temperatures with
closer pipe centres to ensure fast response to control signals. Working comfort for the children is provided at all times, with no risk of overheating despite the gains from all the IT equipment.
Systems have been installed in three new classrooms at Anson School. A solid floor construction was used, with loops of Timoleon pipework fixed in position with staples driven into a layer of insulation material.
Loop ends were then connected via discreetly located manifolds to the flow and return sides of the school’s new boiler plant. After pressure testing a screed was poured to integrate the Timoleon system
into the floor structure and to provide a smooth, even surface for the final floor finish of vinyl sheeting.
For control purposes each of the three classrooms is set up as an independent zone. Supplies of warm water to the hidden pipework loops are modulated in response to the individual room thermostats. The concealed system is completely safe and tamper-proof. Easy access is provided
to all areas and the ability to use all the available wall space is particularly appreciated by the school staff.
